We’re conducting the UNEP-DHI Eco Challenge to mark World Water Day on 22 March 2014. In so doing, we hope to educate youngsters about the vital importance of water.

This is the second run of the challenge, where high school students in Asia Pacific compete in the serious game ‘Aqua Republica’. The aim of the challenge is twofold:

  • To increase the students’ awareness of integrated water resources management
  • To stir up their interest in solving water-related challenges

This year, we’re taking the challenge to the next level by teaming up with other noteworthy organisations, such as the Asian offices of UNESCO. Korean Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) from South Korea and the Lee Foundation from Singapore will be the official event sponsors this year. We expect around 1000 teams of students to participate in the challenge. They hail from several countries in Asia Pacific, including Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Australia.
