The Australian Water Association (AWA) awarded our revolutionary Murrumbidgee CARM project top honours at the annual AWA Awards ceremony held at the OzWater Conference dinner in Perth on 8 May 2013. Mr Brett Tucker, CEO of State Water Corporation (SWC) accepted the prize which was jointly awarded to SWC and project sponsor, Water for Rivers.

The CARM project was judged the National winner in the Innovation and Infrastructure category, ahead of finalists from seven other states and territories. The earlier award from the NSW branch of the AWA meant CARM was an automatic finalist for the national competition.

In conjunction with water metering contractor Comdain, we are major project partners in the AUD 65 million CARM project that is funded by Water for Rivers and executed by SWC. We are providing a Decision Support System (DSS) for river operations for the project. This DSS is based on our MIKE Customised platform, underpinned by MIKE by DHI hydrology and hydraulic modelling tools.

CARM involves a series of initiatives on the Murrumbidgee River to make it one of the world’s most efficient and best managed working river systems. It has resulted in estimated water savings of 12,433 megalitres per year. This project is set to facilitate continued water savings and improved service to irrigators and other water users along the Murrumbidgee River system

This latest award is a strong endorsement of the CARM approach to river management in Australia. We expect it will have significant and long lasting impacts.
