We have been appointed as the lead consultant for a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Johor, Malaysia. The project will involve reclaiming 3,485 acres in southwest Johor for a major petroleum and industrial development venture. Experts from our offices in Malaysia, Singapore and Denmark will work on the MYR 3 million (equivalent to approximately USD 971,000) project.

The project is located in an environmentally sensitive area. Three Ramsar sites – wetland areas designated for conservation and sustainable use – are situated nearby. An EIA is mandatory for such projects that are likely to impact the environment.

To address the concerns of the approving authorities, we will conduct one of the most comprehensive EIAs performed in Malaysia to date. Our Ecology and Environment Department in Denmark will perform the habitat modelling. In parallel, our office in Malaysia will be responsible for detailed hydraulic, navigation, risk and socioeconomic assessments.

Our EIAs generally employ an ecosystem-based approach. We use our aquatic ecosystem and habitat models combined with field investigations. This allows for a more comprehensive description of baseline components and impact assessments.
