Links to several apps for more effective planning
An online Flood & Drought portal with tools for basin and catchment planning was unveiled to more than 150 stakeholders at the 2nd Flood and Drought Symposium in Thailand last week.
The symposium was held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok and was opened by Dr Sorarit Siltharm, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Thailand. The opening address was followed by presentations from key stakeholders who have contributed with valuable knowledge, feedback and expertise during the project implementation in Thailand.
Developed by DHI under the Flood and Drought Management Tools project funded by the Global Environment Facility, the Flood & Drought portal provides access to several apps to support decision makers in the planning process.
An additional resource for flood and drought management
Recent devastating flood and drought events in Thailand underline the urgent need for cutting edge technology to help decision makers effectively plan for and mitigate the impact of these hazards.
Since 2012, DHI has played an important role in the development and implementation of flood forecasting and management systems covering the whole of Thailand. The development of this online portal further supports these needs and provides additional methods and tools for drought management.
The web-based technical tools support decision makers in Thailand towards effective water resource management and planning through technical applications. Target areas include issue identification and prioritisation, indicator mapping, data availability, drought and flood assessment, planning and decision making and automated reporting. All technical applications can be used individually or seamlessly to identify and evaluate flood and drought hazards – so that better planning may take place to mitigate the impacts.
